Gals and Pals vs. Royksopp

Gals and Pals

Gals and Pals - Blue On Blue

Royksopp - So Easy

A real quickie today from Swedish vocal group Gals and Pals. I've been unable to find out anything about them apart from that they were most prominent in the sixties and apparently did a mean cover of Sandie Shaw's Always Something There To Remind Me.

This track, a cover of the Bobby Vinton classic, first came to my attention thanks to the Royksopp track So Easy of their album Melody AM which uses a large sample from it in it's chorus. I love the incredibly mellow backing track with these beautiful harmonies laid over the top. The separation of the male and female (or pals and gals) is excellently choreographed and listen out for the tinkling piano that comes in half way through. Definitely a cover version that to my mind blows away the original.

I've also included Royksopp's So Easy so you can compare. Its a funky little electronic number which uses the sample well and sparingly. However, maybe it's just me, but it kind of pales next to the original.

You can get a copy of Gals and Pals greatest hits HERE

Or alternatively get the superb album I got my version off, Sampled Vol 4, which I'm loath to reveal as the series is a goldmine for obscure tunes.

If you haven't already got a copy, the Royksopp album is worth checking out and can be bought HERE.

In other news, new PC came last night, getting internet connected tonight, so sometime next week I should finally be able to put up some of my obscure and deeply funky vinyl on here, sort out proper song hosting and also improve the quality of the Mp3s.

Hey, I just wanted to mention that I've been visiting this site for about a month, now, and it's fantastic. I love your music picks.

Thanks Joey - trying to improve the download system at the moment but glad you're enjoying the music!

For a swede like me, it's so funny to read when you call this music "obscure" :)

Svante Thuresson is a legend, and if you like gals and pals, you will love his solo-albums (to many to mention).
Here a link to a collection of his works.

This store, by the way, has a lot of cheap swedish music :)

Still finding those download pages incomprehensible and impossible to use.

Perhaps you could post some hints? Or use a different service?

Anonymous: Maybe you should read what junior writes on his blog .. not just steal the mp3's. And if you read the rapidshare text .. you should have no problem downloading. But junior wrote this at the end of this post:

"In other news, new PC came last night, getting internet connected tonight, so sometime next week I should finally be able to put up some of my obscure and deeply funky vinyl on here, sort out proper song hosting and also improve the quality of the Mp3s".

So he's working on it.. ;) ... and I'm sure he can speak for himself as well.. ;)

I just couldn't resist.

Peace man!

Hi, Junior! Thanx for the post, "Gals and Pals vs. Royksopp"! I found it while researching free online piano lesson for an article I'm writing, and while "free online piano lesson" isn't an exact match for my article. "Gals and Pals vs. Royksopp" did capture my interest & attention. BTW, I wonder if you know anything about the ex-musician at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/claycotton ... I'd appreciate anything you may have learned!!

Thank you in advance.

Yo Junior !

I found "Gals and Pals vs. Royksopp" while searching for info on american piano player to use in my new, magazine site on amazing, Amercan Jazz / Blues piano players. I dunno why your post came up, and though "american piano player" and "Gals and Pals vs. Royksopp" aren't a truly perfect fit for me, your post did get my attention and interest!

I'd appreciate if anyone here can post info on ex-pianoman Clay Cotton and the "nuclear-meltdown, piano-mania, happy blues" piano music at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/claycotton.

Thanks,
